About Me

William Woodard is a pianist, vocal coach and conductor based in Houston, TX. He joins the music staff of Houston Grand Opera this season where he will be assisting on Falstaff, Parsifal, Big Swim and The Sound of Music. William has previously served on music staff at the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Washington National Opera and New Orleans Opera. Last season he joined the Met Music Staff under the baton of Daniele Callegari for La Traviata and covered the on-stage role of Boleslao Lazinski in their new production of Fedora.

William is an alumnus of many prestigious festivals including Wolf Trap Opera, the Merola Opera Program, the Aspen Music Festival, SongFest and AIMS in Graz where he was awarded the Outstanding Lieder Pianist Prize. This past summer, William joined the music staff at Wolf Trap as Chorus Master for their productions of Faustand Don Giovanni.

William made his Carnegie Hall debut while participating in Renée Fleming’s SongStudio in 2019. As a recitalist, he has performed at Bruno Walter Auditorium, at several embassies in Washington DC, with the Brooklyn Art Song Society, LA Opera’s At Home concert series, M Institute, Florida Keys Concert Association, the Missouri River Arts Festival and is thrilled to add DC Vocal Arts to this list. William is also an avid chamber musician, and a former member of the KOE Trio, which he co-founded at Manhattan School of Music. He now continues his love of chamber music as a Featured Musician with After Arts for the 2022-2023 season.

William is an alumnus of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program as well Washington National Opera’s Cafritz Young Artist Program. 

 

William graduated from the Manhattan School of Music where he studied under the tutelage of Warren Jones and was a recipient of the Jensen Scholarship for Opera Accompanying. Previously, he attended Vanderbilt University where he was a Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholar and studied under Amy Dorfman.
